Before building this amp, I only heard a tube amp for about three minutes. I was hooked, and wondered how I wasted half my adult life on solid state.
I painted the chassis with flat white spray paint, then lettered the chassis with ink using drafting pens and Leroy lettering sets. I love that part! I bought the amp punched and drilled from DobermanAmps.com, and was determined that my next build would be 100% my own work.
I like the classic look of chicken head knobs. The amp chassis had three tube socket holes punched in it, so I added the Sears Tower because I won't be modding this amp into anything else. I should use a VGA cameraphone for all of my pictures in the future, it hides a lot of errors!
Here's the finished product. I guess you could call this a 1/4-stack! For 5 watts, this thing is amazingly loud through two efficient Eminence speakers. I used 10" Copperhead and Ragin' Cajun speakers, and they complement each other nicely. The amp has 4-ohm, 8-ohm, and 16-ohm outputs, so I made a switch on the speaker cabinet that switches all of these combinations as well. This is a perfect home system.
Getting some real use...
